Siri, Sim & Sound Affects

Weather: Overcast, end of the October heatwave
Mood: Still in a funk, hungover from the weekend
Word: "Siri", the new iPhone voice recognition software
Rosie: Now enjoys having her own seat on the bus
Lunch: Cheese & chutney sandwiches, apricots, crudités
Exercise: Quick stroll at lunch
Booze: Nada, still suffering from debauched wedding weekend in Cheshire
Purchased: Sound Affects by The Jam LP, Kingdom Come by JG Ballard and Homicide by David Simon, all for £3 at my local Havens Hospices charity shop
Media: Guardian Football Weekly Podcast, new Death In Vegas and Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams albums on Spotify, Blazing Saddles on DVD
Notes: Restless night and I fail to emerge from my pit before 7am, only to face delays on the Blackwall Tunnel Approach causing me to be late to work. Not a good start to a grim Tuesday, and I'm feeling glum after 4 days of sunshine and a wonderful wedding in Cheshire. Ruth's brother Sim really lucked out with the weather on the day he married Hannah, and Rosie really loved being a flower girl. Arriving at the reception, it all felt like a chic village fete with a grand tipi marquee and lots of creative little touches, such as personal messages to the bride & groom written on a typewriter. Several G&Ts, pints of Adnams and bottles of Asahi later and we found ourselves on the dancefloor - but sadly Ruth got too carried away and twisted her ankle in the excitement. That meant I did 2 days of Rosie chasing alone (including to & from nursery on my day off on Monday) and the 4-hour drive home. Still feeling the after-effects tonight, but enjoyed a big bowl of pasta & garlic bread as comfort food.

Blog: After all the expectation ahead of today's Apple press conference, it turns out that there was no iPhone 5 announcement after all. Instead the focus is on the iPhone 4S, which doesn't appear to be a huge advance on the iPhone 4, apart from its faster processor and the new personal assistant service, Siri. This promises to be either a futuristic leap forward, or slightly annoying when everyone starts barking voice commands into phones, I'm just a little worried it'll recognise my South London accent.
