Nothing feels more like summer than endless nights, Wimbledon and Glastonbury. Nowadays though, life with the wee bairn means that I'm more likely to face endless mornings that start at 5am, and watch the latter two on the BBC rather than frolic in a field somewhere. Anyway, hello blog, it's been a while.
Things are just starting to wind down now after several stag dos, exams in early June and a very busy publishing schedule at work. Having the World Cup on the box pretty much constantly has certainly helped me relax, although England's stuttering progress has shredded the nerves. Things are looking up after the Slovenia result, and I feel bizarrely confident about the Germany game this Sunday. Not sure why!
Anyway, enough of the World Cup. I'll be away camping on the day of the final so, should England make it, I'll probably be in a country pub all on my own! We've planned a little tour leaving home on my birthday for Blackberry Farm in Sussex, then stopping off for 2 nights in Dorset, before kicking back for 5 nights in Ilfracombe, Devon. All in our new £200 Vango Oregon 600 tent, with separate compartments for Rosie & us.
We'll also be taking it to the Big Chill festival in early August, and maybe Hop Farm next weekend, although I need to confirm that the very cheap deal I got through the Supajam website (£80 for 2 weekend tickets inc camping) is kosher. It'll also get an outing in mid-August at the farm in Norfolk, so the first home we buy as a family should prove a good investment.
It's not all about the camping for us this summer though. We're off in late August to Tuscany, taking the red-eye Miseryair flight to Pisa, to stay in a villa in a small village called Sinalunga with the family of our friend Jamie. After stuffing ourselves on steak, salami and chianti, we're doing a mad 2-day train journey to Avignon in France, stopping off in Genoa overnight. The plan is to attend our friend's wedding on a vineyard in Chateauneuf du Pape territory, have a long weekend in Orange and then fly back on BA from Marseille. Cabin crew and ash clouds permitting.
So, all this should provide plenty of material for future blogs. That's it from me now then, I'm off to watch Brazil v Portugal.
